Included is a scan of 3-lrvs - duewag - and in the late 1990s, Pgh. had
the 3rd longest lrv.
.
That Portland model uses standard floor height at either end. The
center section is actually a single truck vehicle with articulated
joints on either end of it so it is a double artic vehicle - seating in
this section is along the sides only facing the other side and wheels
are in the well formed by the seat - individual axles for each of the 4
wheels - axles do not extend across the vehicle.
.
A very small ramp slips out to bridge the gap between the platform and
the lrv, about an inch or two lower than the vehicle. If wheelchair
is visible on platform as train arrives it is extremely fast getting it
on board. If wheelchair onboard doesn't give op sufficient notice
before stopping then it is more involved to get the wheelchair off as op
has to let doors cycle and regular passengers off, then close, reset for
wheelchair, then reopen doors.
.
I always ride in the high platform section -- donut know what kind of
protection is there is something broadsides it in low floor section --
they would come right in the vehicle at the doors. Have said before
that I am not overly fond of duewag - hunts and viciously so. These
vehicles were almost new when I rode them last and I could detect that
tendency to hunting. I was in the area about a month ago, saw MAX
from a distance but didn't take the opportunity to ride -- haven't
even Seen the streetcar system they have there.
.
I think the original Bombardier LRVs with which MAX opened in 1986 are
Super Exceptional -- this is the only system I want to return to to
ride. All-Electric vehicle (like Siemens) and Ultra Smooth
riding. Truck construction mimics that of B3 but with Chevron
springing -- Very Wonderful Ride. They are now 21-years old --
will hate to see them go..
.
Gotta run~!~!~!
