Interlocking is set through track circuits as a rule aren't they and there are several clues to this.  Both the Inbound and the outbound cars do not have overhead contactors for clearing the interlocking  (overhead contactors are in place inbound for resetting the derails only as the vehicles have not cleared the junction itself)  and if you look closely at some of the pictures you can see insulated rail joints.  An inbound interurban could prevent an outbound car from crossing in front of it and the signal for the outbound cars would be red until point is set for straight through direction giving a proceed for that direction.  What happens at the first contactor won't affect the interlocking until the point is set.
