Continuing with Pittsburgh streetcar line traffic data from 1948:
Part 11 - Shuttle Lines (yes, this is posted "out of sequence"!)
9 - Charles Street Transfer
0.7 miles
17 - Reedsdale
0.8 miles
24 - Schoenville
1.5 miles
29 - Thornburg
1.4 miles
32 - P&LE Transfer
0.8 miles
51 - Bon Air
0.5 miles
52 - 36th and Carson Street
0.2 miles
63 - Corey Avenue
0.7 miles
78 - Laketon Road
0.7 miles
Summary, shuttle lines
7.1 miles system length (unduplicated).
Lougee reported 1,642,000 revenue passengers for "shuttle routes." But
the implied
system length ("round trip miles" / 2) is 10.0 miles. This is almost 3
miles more than I
determined (by measuring from the street map). Thus, I am led to
suspect that the "shuttle
route" passenger statistic includes at least some of the passengers
carried by lines that
were not worked (in 1948) as full-time shuttles: e.g. 81 Atwood
Street, 12 - Evergreen
Road.
It would be interesting to have passenger traffic statistics for these
lines on an individual
basis. Unfortunately, available data do not permit this.
Most but not all of these lines served streets that no longer have
transit service.
