Portland City Council has committed $27 million toward the $147 million
cost of an eastward extension of Portland Streetcar according to a story
in The Oregonian. Approximately half of the needed capital cost would
come from federal funding. TriMet will submit a grant request on behalf
of the streetcar system. Service could start in February 2011:

Portland Streetcar now operates a mixed fleet of Czech-built modern
streetcars: the original group is comprised of Skoda's Astra design. The
latest come from Inekon, which supplied Trio streetcars Nos. 008-010 to
Portland. The first in-service photos on the Web now are posted although
the caption mislabeled the Inekon car as an Astra:

The car body differences between the two designs are a bit subtle.
However, the Inekon Trio is a double-ended streetcar.
