As I recall, 1955 and 1956 were very strong years.   In 1955 the  
Pennsylvania Railroad was forced to borrow locomotives from  
everywhere they could just to keep things moving.   Steam was  
restored that year to places that had not seen it since 1952, i.e.  
Altoona to Johnstown to Blairsville to Pitcairn Yard, and  
Williamsport to Renova to Driftwood and points west.   In 1956 the  
PRR borrowed steam engines from the Reading for use in the Harrisburg  
- Sunbury - Williamsport area, and they used Santa Fe 2-10-4s on the  
line from Columbus to Sandusky, Ohio.

Then in 1957 it seems that the bottom began to fall out of the  
business.   I think things were pretty slack in 1958 and 1959 as  
well.   But I was in the army from late 1958 through 1961 and their  
employment was dependable even if not appreciated.
