Undoubtedly -- ALL make mistakes -- LCD is People. But Drivers
is a separate topic from Passengers. What was really amazing is the
Consistency of the replies from the people when they made the mistake
-- they were Never Wrong and couldn't admit it when it was revealed
that a sign for such didn't not even exist~!~!~!
.
Getting PicNicktly about the above --
.
.......You state driver Did Make Correct Settings
.
.......Sign Didn't display properly
.
..............Thus, Not Fault of Driver.
.
.
People Can Retort:
.
.......Driver should check Sign to verify.
.
.......True - but exceptions exist in the ImPerfect World~!~!:::
.
..............If electronic sign and we Must Check every time we change,
then the system ain't so hot so go back to rolls.
.
As I mentioned, SF and Many Cities use split destination signs - route
remains same on roll signs and is untouched by driver once set (unless
route is changed) and only the terminals are changed at Each End of the
line -- should we -- Would You -- check to verify each time it was
changed~?~!~? Yes, Fanatic RailFan Driver // Operator would check
Each Time For A While and then give up the idea. On a split roll
sign the signs are marked as to display so That Is Verification~!~!
As I mentioned that it was Required for an op backing out of the 42 wye
to visually verify that his pole was on the right overhead there were
those Ops who didn't check. If the catcher were below the window
just checking the rope in the mirror would be sufficient. Do that
with trolley coach as verification that poles are going the right way.
.
I Personally made a mistake on signs. Sign was correct but I made a
wrong turn. After 7-PM 41 and 45 were Interlined - we alternated
trips. Told passengers to Hang Loose, went to place where I could
turn around (Trolley Coach - have only driven electrics my whole career
except when diseaseals are substituted for some reason,) did a couple
gravity switches because overhead didn't exist for the turn, and got
back onto route. Running a little late but I have 3 lead feet~!~!~!
.
.
.
Can't find diseaseal SF Muni roll sign displays but included is a PDF
of Terminal Destinations Only for Flyer TCs -- only TC lines are
there. Signs included Anticipated New Electrification most of which
never happened. This file shows the actual colors of the signs and
is very nicely done but is a little difficult to read. There are two
TC divisions in SF and TCs carried signs for All TC lines in roller days.
.
In the second column, Just Above -- Sorry No Passengers -- is
_NoWhere__In__Particular_ and it is easy to spot Red Ambulance --
Opera / Symphony Service, West Portal Station is one of those
anticipated electrifications which didn't not happen (extension of
6-Parnassus which works out of Potrero - I work out of Presidio) and
there are others that never came to be. Those of you interested in
SF and aware of routings can look for those~!~!~!
