Regarding Cpl. Ira Swett's report on the Charleroi line (with humble =
apologizes for what may have been mentioned here before).=20
He seems to have the double track section running both ways from 5th =
street (which he correctly refers to as the "main intersection") in mind =
when he writes that the track becomes "girder rail" there. It was girder =
rail from Maple Creek to the end of Lincoln Avenue in North Charleroi.
The 3 bridges were not wooden.
On the map of course, Roscoe Loop was in Elco.
"Allenwood Avenue" does not exist. The stop was Allenwood. Mr. Allen's =
big home above it became the first Charleroi-Monessen Hospital. He laid =
out a plan of lots bordered by Lincoln Ave (the car line), lower 7th =
street, West Liberty Ave, and the Charleroi line. He called it =
Allenwood. Ask someone now where Allenwood is, you would probably get a =
blank stare.
The northbound bound stop was a few doors south of lower 7th street. The =
southbound stop was at upper 7th street (there is a little jog in 7th =
street there). North and south bound stopped directly across from each =
other.
