You would have to ride Tatra cars to get impersonal comparison. One think 
you need to understand is that they had been built not to compete against 
automobiles but to improve transit standard in larger cities with transit 
companies controlled by local government (not private companies). The 
external appearance is different, "conventional European", but they function 
similarly. Actually, Tatra started production in 1951 and mach had been 
improved over more than 45 years of production. The more recent types have 
fairly different shapes and use electronics, but some of the truck 
components are still of that vintage design. I will send some photos off
