Looking at Smithfield and 7th in this photo http://tinyurl.com/yup4fm
it is difficult to tell if the rails to and from 7th // Liberty are
polished -- used. But I wonder if that intersection was built in
response to Arnold's suggestion in this map http://tinyurl.com/2vr5u2
ALL South Hills lines would use Smithfield, 7th, Wood both
directions Except those that turn Smithfield to Water to Wood 'would'
again turn onto 3rd, Smithfield, and back to bridge. According to
the 1952 "Electric_Railroads" article on PRCo, the original Interurban
terminal was at 3rd and Wood. Although Arnold's report is about 1910
/ 1912 (and interurban terminal had been moved from 3rd//Wood to PRR
Union Station in August-1905, 102-Years Ago~!~!) he is possibly
suggesting that the routing revert to original. Still possible for
the Interurbans to come in over Smithfield, 7th, Grant, Union Station,
Liberty to Smithfield or Wood to return and something else could take
the short turn from Wood IB to 3rd to Smithfield. Notice the
otherwise absence of tracks on Grant~!~!~!
