The car gave considerable problem for considerable distance  --
wet rails aren't that consistently problematic  --
this Consistency should have given him concern.
.
If the op thought he was  *_Simply__Skidding_*
Because  Of  wet rails:::::::
.......the wheels would be locked,
.......the drums would be applied,
.......and the Drum Light would be lit so
this might not have alerted him.
