I took note of the steel mill in the distant background of the photo and surmised it to be looking East, toward the mills. I guess that was a correct observation.

So, I've been looking at the April photo in the PTM 2008 Calendar
(Nineteenth and Carson Streets Sahside) for the last 26 days and
trying to decide whether the view is East away from town or West
toward dahntahn. I was about to appeal to authority and consult the
Lybarger Institute or the Schneider Clipping Service when I
remembered the Street View function on Google Maps. So.....by
cybertransport to the actual intersection and panning around, I THINK
that the view is East away from dahntahn. Corner buildings have
been changed but the "Merchants' Row along the right side looks like
the painting. So the river would be to the left. Any additions or
corrections?

PS. I don't know which e-list I learned about this from, though I
think it was this one, so I'll skip the explanation of Street View.
PPS. I usually reserve this adjective for stuff that REALLY
impresses me, and Street View is AWESOME.
