5. Electric Railways of Japan series (3 volumes), Demery, Forty, DeGroote & Higgins
Books 1 and 2 give an oversight of the first half and second half of the North American industry. Book 3 gives technical detail. Book 4 covers the largest system in the world during the heyday of conventional traction. The 3 little books in number 5 give an oversight, although a bit dated, of what is probably the largest concentration of electric traction in the world today. The Hakone Tazone Railway with switch backs, tunnels and growling gears.
