The reason stated in our paper for the SONY closing stated that since the
new screens are much lighter, it is cheaper to ship them from farther
distance. SONY is closing plants around the world.
It is a world problem, but I certainly do not see any cutback in consumer
overspending. Cell phones, texting, ski slopes, stores all seem fine. A
local Chevy dealer in Butler told me they are right on track for a normal
winter.

What is so scary about the North Side. My grandmother lived on N Taylor
until she passed away in 1971 and my brother and I used to wander from there
over to West Park regularly without problem as children in the late 50's
early 60's. Now I will admit my 90+ year old grandmother was mugged a few
times coming back form the market. She was less than 4'7" tall and kept
shrinking due to scoliosis and endured unbelievable conditions in the
Widow's Home for over 25 years, but never gave up on the North Side; her
adopted home after the death of her husband in 1946.
