Hello;
Last night some of my bedtime reading was Mr.Wagner's
picture book on Curved-Side Cars. Mr.Wagner used mostly
company photos throughout and apparently arranged the
book chronologically according to orders. The last order but
certainly not least was the WP-831-842 cars.
Following this is a very small section entitled 'Condensed
curved-side car data' and the following is a quote:
"Some say that the last curved-side cars built-- the modern
but gracefully classic cars for West Penn's Valley route--
were the most beautiful imprints ever made of the 'rubber-stamp.'"
Here is what Mr.Wagner writes for 831-832:
"...Appointments were simple but effective and utilitarian.
Brass sash was used for very thin window posts to obtain
largest amount of visibility."
Under a description for Mon-WP 401-403:
"These cars were built with picture windows, without arch
window panel, ..." Also:
"They were originally ... on the Clarksburg-Weston line
but due to complaints ... about their speed cars were not
used in regular service."
Mon-WP also purchased 3-single truck curved-side cars
in Sept.-1924 as well as 17-cars, 316-332, in May-1923.
Mr.Wagner indicates that 400-curved-side cars were
built by Cincinnati; 35-cars for WP is a very good
representation isn't it - 8.75%
