Route 69 Squirrel Hill did not become a separate route until 1918 and
did not have base service Monday through Saturday until 1927.
The Wikipedia link below puts the blame for the final development of
Squirrel Hill on the completion of the Boulevard of the Allies in
1927. Interesting story. Gives some perspective on when the area
developed and why there was a need for rail service there.
I wonder if there is still that great place down on Murray Avenue to
get a good Kosher sandwich for lunch? (I know, I'm always thinking
about the stomach. Never met a meal I didn't like.)
