For those living within 150-250 miles of Cleveland and who desire to take a 'road trip' using only one tank of gasoline for the round trip; listen up.
Saturday, May 24, 2008 will be the first of three Detroit Superior Trolley Subway tours presented by the Cuyahoga County Engineers' Office, RTA, City of Cleveland, and Northern Ohio Railway Museum. The tour is from 8:00 AM until 3:30 PM at the open entrance to the trolley deck of the Detroit-Superior High Level Bridge. This is accessible from the old Superior Avenue Viaduct (West End Portion) and there is plenty of parking with Cuyahoga County Sheriff Officers, City of Cleveland Police Officers, and Regional Transit Authority Police Officers assisting with traffic and security. There are lots of free items given away, plenty of displays, good videos in the two "Subway Theatres", and a PRCo/PATransit PCC to look at inside and out.
The real thrill part of the tour is walking across the lower level of the Detroit Superior Bridge and looking down into the Cuyahoga River Valley through the open ties. The tours are "self-guided", however, there are plenty of people assisting with information all through the subway and bridge. It is worth a trip to Cleveland to see a really good idea in public transit which was thrown away in the name of progress but now is in the planning stages to bring it back as a tourist/heritage/downtown people mover system.
Saturday, May 24, 2008 -- 8 AM to 3:30 PM...............be there...........I will be there too.
