"Usually a foamer has a hard time seeing the whole picture and we do warn
our new operators about them at PTM."
Hee-hee...........yeah, send Ed L. or Fred the Third after them! They'll get
those foamers' minds right!
Ironic as it is, I had NO interest in politics until I begain studying the
Dameron Era at PAT. Nothing like mixing railfan romance, urban politics and
practicality for the common good to get an interesting story.
I have remarked to Ed Lybarger, Harold G. and Fred the Third that the
grassroots efforts to save the remaining South Hills car lines brought
together a political mix seldom seen in the modern era of mass transit.
But I do keep a low profile about my affinity for all things rail when I am
around railroaders. There is a Union Pacific engineer I know through our
daughter's Girl Scout troop with whom I get along great. He has no idea I am
a railfan. And he even suggested a cab ride someday, if things ever calm
down concerning security and such.
When I was a volunteer at the original East Troy Trolley Museum, a couple of
unnamed C.E.R.A. big shots came by for a ride one day and tried to "play
dumb" to test our knowledge. I never understood why anybody would get their
jollies that way.
