Owes is correct.

I suspect the entire list is below average because we are all old men  
except for Derrick.

I will admit to buying gasoline on one because I'm too lazy to walk  
into the "convenience" store and stand in line to pay for the gas.     
But I have a real problem with using a credit card to buy groceries  
yet I see a lot of people doing it and I do not see them punching in  
a PIN that would tell me they are using a debit card.

Remember that if you take out 24 percent owing nothing, those who do  
owe have an average exceeding $100,000.
