Unless the line was to be kept open as an alternate route, or if there was a
restraining order on the abandonment, PRC and PAT usually started to remove
wire shortly after trolley operations ceased.
The attached image seems to show one of these exceptions: I took this photo
of wire removal at the intersection of Chestnut and East Ohio Streets on the
Northside on September 11, 1966. The view is to the northwest, Chestnut St.
in the foreground, and E. Ohio Street running left to right in the
background (where the dump trucks are removing debris from demolition of the
old Limberg building).
The Chestnut/E. Ohio line was used by 77/54. Tracks in the right foreground
(under the blue '59 Ford) continue north on Chestnut St. (routes 1 and 5).
