Mr.Barry;
Great photo isn't it; where did you find it?
Even more interesting than precise location is conditions surrounding the
'accident.' Appears that truck hit the trolley and knocked it off the track;
the driver is not in the truck is he. Also note the marks on the pavement
beside the trolley; a wheel of the front truck was suddenly pushed
sideways. Car 1666 came to a stop within about 30-feet. The bumper
of the truck appears to be near the floor line, point of greatest strength
for the trolley. Thus little damage that we can 'see' beyond a small dent
above the anticlimber and the missing dash light. 'If' the dating of 1950
is correct, which seems likely, PRC didn't run equipment missing a dash
light did they. 'Maybe' the trolley was accelerating away from the Car Stop
after boarding or discharging passengers. The bumper of the truck is
caved, 'possibly' from hitting the trolley on the front left corner near the
anticlimber. This then 'suggests' the truck was making a wide right turn
and overshot the centerline of Forbes. The truck has backed to clear
Forbes unlike today where the accident is unmoved, especially if someone
gets a hangnail as a result!
Also note that the dash of 1666 was repainted, all except the number itself.
Car 1666 also sports a 'chrome' golden glow.
There was a loop @ Seneca and Gist between 5th and Forbes wasn't there;
the track configuration in the background does not fit this location does it.
The outbound track on Forbes turns into Gist while the track from Seneca
turns to outbound Forbes doesn't it. But there could be other track not
used and not shown on maps. The church could be of some help.
