There is a lot to be said for enjoying a sporting event in the comfort of one's family room.

And having had a foreign exchange student from Germany a couple years ago added a new perspective on the cost of high school sports. German taxpayers don't pay for student sporting activities. The parents pay if the student wants to participate in sporting events. That is why our exchange student belonged to a skating club back in Germany. But in the US, she was able to participate in cross country in fall, swimming in winter, and field hocky in spring. Kept telling us that none of this would have been possible back in Germany.

On the other hand, sport activities get many students off the street. We no longer send 12 year olds into the mines or out the plow the south '40' to keep them out of trouble.

Have long claimed that the purpose of taxes is to get someone else to pay for the things we want.
Cheers
John
