There is some 'wiggle room' with insurance, such as shopping around for best rates and level of coverage. There is also a perceived personal benefit with most insurance.
Taxes are not an option. Suspect many of us can think of a lot of government programs that we would prefer not to support, but that is not a practical option due to job location.
As the saying goes, nothing is certain except death and taxes.
