Hi guys.....

Posted on line for those of you interested in general history of
Pittsburgh and environs. I've been doing the Etna and Millvale
route cards and came across the name Butler Plank Road (which roday
is state route 8 and East Ohio Street.) Polks maps still show it as
Butler Plank Road in Millvale in 1926 but the route cards show it as
Ohio Street in Millvale in the teens. In the City of Allegheny, it
was Ohio Street way back.

At any rate, the first link shows a great picture of the "muddy"
plank road in Glenshaw. One needs some paste to hold the flagstones
or planks or bricks together! There is an icon you can click on to
expand it.

Second link includes history of some of the plank roads in Butler
County. By the way, Perrysville Avenue was once known as
Perrysville Plank Road.
