Probably not nearly as bad as my friend Bruce Bente and I confined in
an automobile for a six week-long tour of light lines. We've done
that multiple times but six weeks was the longest. Going to Phoenix
in March.

John Bowman used to talk about going to ride the Colorado and
Southern narrow gauge from Denver to Leadville with Bill Moedinger.
Sat up all night to Denver, got in just time to catch the narrow
gauge about 8 a.m. to continue to journey westward at something like
20 miles per hour to Como and Leadville. That, to me, sounds like
real torture. I rode the Silverton once ... one way only. I
managed to find someone to trade my return tickets to in exchange for
bus tickets so I could back two hours earlier and enjoy the motel
swimming pool.
