What's astonishing is that there are fish in Lake Erie again.
Remember those days in the 1940s, 1950s, 1960s when nothing could
live in that water?

The other thought that comes to my mind, Herb, is, "Were the fish
flash frozen when the cold air hit them?"

I've been using the miracle of the internet to listen to beautiful
music from Minnesota Public Radio. Periodically they break in with
the weather report.
In St. Paul today ... 5 below zero with a wind chill of minus 20.
Tomorrow should be the same. Bill Middleton's wife grew up in the
Du'lut (spelled Duluth) area ... Dorothy grew up over a drug
store ... probably a good place because warm air rose from downstairs
to the second floor. Bill talked about the last snow melting in June.

I have a cousin who grew up in Oswego, New York ... south side of
Lake Ontario. To them a normal winter week was two feet of new
snow. They simply picked it up and dumped in into the lake from
whence it came. His parents used to send snap shots of them
shoveling the snow off the roof to keep the house from collapsing.
They used to drive around with red flags on the car antennas so you
see approaching autos at the intersections over the snow drifts. I
only remember once when Tom said they closed the schools because of
snow. That was in 1965 when they had 108 inches in one week and 96
inches in the first storm. The newspaper shut down for one day and
the next day published on their front page a picture of the tunnel
through the snow they dug to get into the office to go back to work.

Am I suitable describing the North Coast, Herb?

We do want to make those two guys in Florida and that chap in the
Nevada desert feel comfortable.
