Somethings always die hard. One night a guy on our train from
Harrisburg needed a ride home so I drove him home on my way home.
He offered m some money. I refused. He wanted me to take it
saying, "The Traction Company wouldn't haul me for nothing." Well,
the traction company expired in 1931. The transportation company
tied in 1973. We were now in the era of a transportation
authority. But he still remembered.
And to old people like me, it's still the Shaker Rapid or the Piss
and Whistle and the Pennsylvania Railroad.
I'll bet there are still people in Pittsburgh who still think in
terms of car checks.
