It don't think we ever had anyone playing chicken at the grade
crossing Ken. We simply had stupid motorists who don't look or
can't see large 20 ton objects that will win every time.
The first one was a lady with three kids in the front seat of a pick
up truck. The law requires that everyone be buckled in. She
violated the seat belt laws. She wasn't looking where she was
going ... she was looking at the child the floor. I think she might
have speeding. The flashers at the crossing were working.
I think the most recent accident to the same NOPSI 832 involved a guy
out with his girl friend. She was probably nicer to look at than
the road ahead of him.
But ask any railfan, he would like to extend his trolley museum
tracks down the middle of the street because it's prototypical.
Then ask any sensible museum manager and he or she wouldn't want to
touch that liability with the proverbial ten foot pole. The only
group I know the is crazy enough is McKinney Avenue in Dallas.
