>From photos and maps, apparently Red Line train inbound towards Washington, which may greatly reduced casualties in first car. There was a train stopped at Ft. Totton station. Following train was stopped inbound from New Hampshire Ave. overpass visible in pix. Second following train plowed into train stopped inbound near New Hampshire Ave. It was on a curve. Four track right of way with Metrorail occupying two inner tracks.
Allegedly last train involved the oldest cars on system, which would be the Rohr cars built in early 1970s. Would this have accounted for 'telescoping'?
