For what it's worth ... did any of you see the Today Show piece this
morning on the staged tests between response times with a person (1)
totally sober, (2) with a blood alcohol level of 0.85 (legally
drunk), (3) talking on a cell phone and (4) texting? A red light
was mounted in the windshield in front of the driver and he was
expected to apply brakes when the light went on.
The results? Talking on the phone was materially worse than being
drunk ... I think it stretched the perception distance out 40 feet
and texting was even worse, stretching it out by something like 70 feet.
Of course we'll not get the legislators to do anything about it until
one of their families is killed because they need their cell phones.
