General information is available on page 166, column 1, paragraph 3 of PCC
>From Coast to Coast (First Printing 1983 by Carlson and Schneider III) which
states........."Pleased with the quieter and longer lasting drum brakes on
the 1600 and 1700 series cars, the company prior to 1955 retrofitted 70 cars
from the 1200, 1400, and 1500 groups with Westinghouse or Clark drum brakes
and extended dynamic braking. Because Pittsburgh scrapped surplus cars
according to age and not equipment, all but eight of the rebuilt drum brake
cars were retired by 1963."
No mention in the supplemental charts included in the book concerning drum
brake installation on the 1500 series.
