I'm actually glad RTA is going to POP. When I work the Red Line very
early in the morning and fare collection is on-board, I (and everyone)
get considerably slowed down. Heavy ridership stations like Brookpark,
Puritas, West Park, Triskett, W. 117th, West Blvd, W. 25th, University
Circle, Superior, and Windermere have large crowds boarding between 3
AM and 6 AM. You can take up to five minutes by the time enough of
them put single dollar bills, coins, etc into the box and get issued
passes and farecards. The booths open at 6 AM and things smooth out
except at the stations with no booth attendants any time (six
stations). Between quirky fareboxes, wrinkled dollar bills, misread
passes and people who, on a daily basis, forget how to use the farebox
it can be a headache. Proof Of Payment will be a time saver. Not to
mention the policing can be left to the Transit Police. :-)
