Donna Mae was indeed a Character. I knew her from the mid-1960s, when she
worked as my uncle's secretary. They both were into racing. Somehow she
conned me into hauling two race cars from Canonsburg to Lime Rock, CT over
the July 4 holiday in 1965...it didn't seem to matter that I had no
experience towing any kind of trailer or driving any kind of truck. I was
assigned another kid (I would be 20 the following month) as an assistant; he
wasn't deemed responsible enough to be allowed any of the driving, though.
It was on this trip that I came to know the Cross Bronx Expresssway and the
joys of U.S. 7 through Connecticut. I got the cars there intact, they put
me up at a nice old house near Sheffield, MA converted to an inn, and the
next day took me to the bus station. I rode two Peter Pan buses to New
Haven, where I spent a day with a friend from college. Then it was the New
Haven Railroad to Grand Central, a taxi to LaGuardia and TWA back to
Pittsburgh.

One does interesting things when one is young and stupid, doesn't one?

A few weeks ago it was Billy Mays. Now it's Donna Mae Mims. See obituary
at:

http://cbs2.com/watercooler/Donna.Mae.Mims.2.1244598.html
The video of the wake is on the small screen at the right side of the
obituary, but you may have to watch a short commercial first.

An unusual way to go, but this must be a big national story - the obituary
and news clip are from a California TV station.
