Another great study in detail. It seems the 'plate glass'
building mostly hides a tall white building, the latter
then completely hides the base of the incline doesn't
it. I assume the base would be at street level; is that
2nd Street with the top Forbes? If the object is an
abandoned car then it is part way up the slope.
People may have acted more responsibly then but
it would still seem to be a liability to leave such
unattended.

The Fort Incline Incline was abandoned in 1900 according to several sources.
Look closely, at the base of the incline there is a fuzzy little bump...
Could that be one of the incline cars?...
Or, is it something on the roof of a foreground building?
This is the ONLY image, that I know of, of the Fort Pitt Incline.
Does anyone know of any other Fort Pitt Incline Images?
