Ed - I didn't pay Seven Bucks for the Classic Train magazine only 1/2 the cost as I enjoy old time railroading as well as classic trolleys.

I've found the article. Â Looks like the gent bought some of Ara Mesrobian's
seconds and decided they were wonderful. Â Bus his knowledge of the system
(and Pennsylvania) appears to be limited.
Those "several" 5' 2-1/2" systems he mentions in the first line would
include:
Pittsburgh Railways Co.
West Penn Railways Co. & subsidiary Allegheny Valley St. Ry. Co.
Tarentum, Â Brackenridge & Butler St. Ry. Co.
Pittsburgh, Harmony New Castle & Butler Ry. Co.
Pittsburgh, Mars & Butler Ry. Co.
Butler Rys. Co.
Beaver Valley Traction Co.
Woodlawn & Southern St. Ry.
Westmoreland County Ry. Co.
Irwin-Herminie Traction Co.
Fairchance & Smithfield Traction Co.
Homestead & Mifflin St. Ry. Co.
Duquesne & Dravosburg St. Ry. Co.
Clairton St. Ry. Co.
Port Vue St. Ry.
Webster, Monessen, Belle Vernon & Fayette City St. Ry. Co.
Westside Electric St. Ry. Co.
Altoona & Logan Valley Ry. Co. (5' 3")
Harrisburg Rys. Co.
Valley Railways
Carlisle & Mt. Holly Ry. Co.
Hershey Transit Co.
Chambersburg & Gettysburg Electric Ry. Co.
Chambersburg, Greencastle & Waynesboro St. Ry. Co.
Conestoga Transportation Co.
Lancaster & York Furnace St. Ry. Co.
Reading St. Ry.
Ephrata & Lebanon Traction Co.
Lykens Valley Ry. Co.
Philadelphia Transportation Co. (5' 2-1/4")
Philadelphia Suburban Transportation Co. (5' 2-1/4")
Wilmington & Philadelphia Traction Co. (5' 2-1/4")
Allentown & Reading Traction Co. (half)
Philadelphia & Easton Electric Ry. Co. (5' 2-1/4")
Trenton, Bristol & Philadelphia St. Ry. Co.
        and maybe a couple that I missed...Fred?
Clearly, his definition of "several" is different from mine. Â His
understanding of the Coke Region geography is tiny (he missed the existence
of the second parallel main line and doesn't grasp that the region
encompassed far more than just Connellsville).
My purpose is not to pick nits here. Â But the big thing that's absent is
interpretation in its own time. Â He's taking what was there in 1951 and
suggesting that's what it always was. Â How egregious.
I'm glad I didn't spend the seven bucks on the magazine, though. Â Clambake
sells foam these days.

I wonder what exciting lies the captions contain. Â I'll have to look for it.

Be sure to stop by your local "newstand" and pick up the Spring 2010 Classic
Trains Magazine.
