Part of the problem was soldiers returning home from the "Great War".  Never 
before had so many soldiers left their homeland to fight on another 
continent.  We had a very limited knowledge of influenza and that is still 
true today. It is still a major cause of death around the world.

More people died from the flu than in all of that war.

Oh, by the way, I turned down an opportunity to get my H1N1 shot yesterday.
