Edison was never a fan of music.  His hearing problems probably had a lot to 
do with that.  His hearing problems also let him ignore a lot of the world 
so he could concentrate.  He was more interested in preserving people's 
voices.

His team changed the world at a faster pace than ever before.  Many people 
also forget that the team, and Edison, failed far more times than they 
succeeded.  Just part of the scientific method.  Life changed drastically 
between 1870 and 1920.  But what a great time to look back and learn.

Recorded music did not put a huge dent into live music until the technology 
improved.  By the 1920's, Sousa coined the term "canned music" and correctly 
predicted it would be the downfall of live music.  He was right on the mark.
