Ah, and further information if I look harder.
Chartered June 22 1886 (3rd link below)
Opened June 25, 1888, already in financial trouble, and promptly
stopped operating (second link below)
Daft system, 5 12 ton motors (locomotives) drawing 16 foot trailers,
max grade 15.48%. (4th, 5th links)
They were sold to the Pittsburgh and Birmingham Traction Co by 1892,
who would abandon the line "below Washington" (iirc the old name for
Warrington) and used the rest to improve their hilltop service. (first
link below)
Given the suit Birmingham Traction was involved in (Frederick Hampe,
after their meeting of September 8 1891 where the Mt Oliver Incline
takeover was announced) regarding whether their charter allowed them
to own inclines I wonder if the purchase of this company was instead a
contrivance to buy a complete railway route to the top of the hill,
already under charter. (6th link below)
