Mr.Schneider,
I doubt this is the final word; there seems to be a multitude of reasons why
collections
are incomplete. A master plan to transition from operating company to railfan
groups/museums
is not evident is it. Railfans had to acquire on a priority basis and equipment
would certainly
seem to be first. Records are kept for the benefit of the operating company,
not the railfan.
What isn't an asset or liability would be filed/ forgotten/ buried/ discarded
etc. Fans could
only accumulate what Mom and Dad, spouse, roomate would allow. This is in
addition to
trying to store an operating railway company in the basement or garage; it
can't be done.
I'd rather be thankful for what is available than bemoan what we don't have.
