I remember the store, too; my office was in the Jenkins Arcade during the
mid-to-late '70s - a short walk away.  Nice wood floors, just like the
Woolworth's in Canonsburg (and the Murphy's in State College as recently as
the late '80s).

As Ed notes (and for anyone who was there in the 60's), this is
clearly Sixth St., turning onto Liberty Ave. 



The scene reminded me of the day that I took my camera into that Woolworth
store - a few days before it closed.  A store security guard stopped me and
said photography wasn't allowed inside the store, but by that time I had
taken nearly 20 photos on the first and second floors.

There's a lot wrong with the identifying material accompanying this image. 
First, the car is turning from 6th Street onto Liberty Avenue. Â Second,
it's attributed to the Pittsburgh Railways Company holdings. Â At that time,
the railfan photographer called himself the "Pittsburgh Railways Company"
and even had letterheads reading it. Â Third, the route was around long
before 1940. Â The University has been once again been misinformed...it's
not part of the actual PRCo records.
