Mr.Brannon;

Now we have evidence to back my original observation that the
device in question appears like an antenna don't we.  On pg.-96
and pg.-97 of PCC Car Fought Back is a 2-page spread on
the 1500s.  An obscure note in the photo captions, bottom right,
says this:
"The cars were used until 1956, and in 1950 an extensive overhaul
resulted in the application of all-steel roofs, and radios.  One of
them appears in its final form at the top of this page in service
on the Broadway line."
Squint and the  'antenna'  can be seen on 1516 can't it.

The full page photo on pg.-184 of Coast To Coast, and taken above
the roof line, finds 1686 lacking this  'antenna'  doesn't it.  The
photo is dated 1948.  Now we might assume that all the cars were
retrofitted with a radio about 1950 can't we.
