My father traveled portions of the PA Turnpike before it was finished as he
traveled from Washington to Indiantown Gap as part of the US Army.  He also
got to experience some of the tunnels in the woods during the early '30's as
a member of another "army".  He was in a CCC camp in south central
Pennsylvania.

I would not count either of those as vacations.
