  NEW CITY SOLICITOR:

ANNE ALPERN NAMED TO SUCCEED BENNER

Resignation of W. C. Batchelor is Announced

Miss Anne X. Alpern has been named first assistant city solicitor, succeeding Thomas M. Benner, who resigned, effective yesterday.

Miss Alpern was named an assistant solicitor last September. Her salary as such was $2,500; as fist assistant, $5,000.

She recently represented the city in a taxpayers' suit to have thrown out the awarding of a contract for construction of an incinerator to other than the lowest bidder. Judge P. Patterson handed down a decision sustaining the award during the week.

Resignation of W. C. Batchelor, superintendent of the Bureau of Recreation, was announced yesterday by Leslie M. Johnston, Public Works Director. Mr. Batchelor has been on furlough. He received $3,000 from the city and $2,700 from the Board of Education.
