[PRCo] Pittsburgh Housing Costs in Depression

Here is an interesting piece somewhat removed from streetcars but it shows what Pittsburgh housing and rents were like 85 years ago.   Can you imagine an era when one-third of the housing lacked bathing facilities?   I think 1960 was the last year that the U. S. census counted out houses and they did find some in urban areas.

A map shows the distribution of rents.   Not surprising is that Squirrel Hill, Shadyside, Highland and Point Breeze and Mount Lebanon were off the charts.   But look how good Homewood and Wilkinsburg and Braddock were in those days.
