Cleveland RTA has been doing this for years. Many central-city stations have
the Cleveland Symphony playing away 24-hours a day. Pittsburgh used to play
the Pittsburgh Symphony over the PA system at downtown T stations. I believe
the main (stated) reason was to show the talent of the Pittsburgh Symphony,
however, I remember that a secondary reason was the psychological aspect of
calming large crowds of people in the stations and keeping squatters away.
