Would really love to have the train NOW, in the Steel Valley area. Buses from that area are packed going to and from town. Standing room only.

When this line was abandoned, the McKeesport economy had peaked long before.
The need for "high-speed" travel between there and Pittsburgh was
continually diminishing. The exceptionally "fast" B&O commuter train was
another experiment that failed economically in the next decade.
So while the passing of rights-of-way such as these (along with those to
Washington and Charleroi) can be lamented, there still needs to be an
economic reason to use them. Unfortunately that was not the case. People
chose to live and work in newer places, and let the established communities
dwindle.
