Bob

The one of which I was thinking had a different name and came in from somewhere out west as I recall.

I just checked my file of 1964 newspaper clippings on PAT's acquisition of PRC and the independent bus companies, and found that the 1-man bus operation was Carnegie Coach. PAT's purchase price was $10,000, and it was the last bus company that PAT acquired.

The Pittsburgh Press published at least one  article on each bus company acquired in 1964, but being a 1-man/1-bus operation, Cargnegie Coach got 2-3X the press coverage than was given to the  larger companies (e.g., Brentwood Motor Coach) that Spring and Summer.

Attached are scans of three Carnegie Coach articles that appeared in the Press. A coulple of the files are large, probably because of the heavy de-screening of  the photos .

One man I think. Â And the driver was quite out of place when he showed up to drive a shiny new PAT Fishbowl in his bib overalls. Â I, too, have that name but it would require more digging to find than I have time for right now!

Attached are scans of the front and back of a Brentwood Motor Coach token (about Q uarter size) in my collection.

I believe that one of the bus companies acquired by PAT was a 1- or 2-man operation. I have a 1964 newspaper clipping about that bus company - I just need to find it.

Thinking back to the era of the PAT takeover in 1964, was Brentwood one of the few suburban bus companies actually making a profit? Deere Brothers was. The outfit that Dieselheimer worked for ... I'm having a senior moment and the company name is escaping ... they were making money. But it seems that a lot of those independents were quite happy to unload their assets on PAT.

John would know because I think he was pretty close to Grant McCoy of McCoy Brother's Bus Company who moved to Harrisburg and worked with John after PAT took over.
