[PRCo] Re: Speers Belle Vernon Bridge tracks? and update to PRyCo Map

There was no street railway on the first Speers - Belle Vernon bridge, which
I believe was a wooden structure. (North Belle Vernon is not close to the
river; it is up on the hill.)

As to the infallibility of railroad valuation maps, I would offer my
standard advice about research..."Question Everything!"

As to the colors on the map...The PRC routes and the interstate highways
show up quite clearly when printed, but it is very hard to distinguish
between the other interurbans and the interstates, and the green city
boundary almost gets lost. Likewise, the railroads are almost invisible.

And what's that loop-de-loop on the Butler Short Line southeast of Valencia?
The bottom half of that circle didn't exist!

On the Harmony Route at the end of PRC Route 12...HR continued straight
ahead from end of PRC. PRC didn't make a sudden turn to the right after HR
was abandoned. HR made that right turn to reach Renfer Viaduct across
Nelson Run. PRC 12 quit in the street short of the turn.

Happy Turkey Day to all.

Ed

Subject: [PRCo] Speers Belle Vernon Bridge tracks? and update to PRyCo Map

I have updated the PRyCo Map after double checking it against the 1910
Arnold map of the PRyCo. I found this map to be fairly accurate after
georeferencing it. I have included a copy of it online with the updated
draft of the PRyCo DEM on my website at:
http://railsandtrails.com/pdf/index.html

Also attached is a section of the PRR Monongahella Main Line valuation
showing Belle Vernon (Speers). It has what appears to be a track on the
bridge between Speers and North Belle Vernon. I cannot find any
documentation of this on any other map. It is unusual for a Railroad
Valuation Map to be incorrect (unlike some other historic maps :-).

FYI: The PRR Valuation maps of the Monongahella Main Line between Charleroi
and Roscoe only show the street railway next to the tracks for a short
distance at the southern end of Charleroi. No tracks show on the West
Monesson (North Charleroi) - Monesson Bridge. I find that the Railroad
Valuation Maps are inconsistent in showing nearby electric railway tracks.
