Herb-on the new lines, the Red Line was not real heavy at the outer end but 
the cars filled up, not packed, but everyone had a seat. By the time they 
reached downtown, they were pretty full. The Green Line-from West Valley was 
somwhat heavier. The Blue Line, the original Sandy-SLC route is very 
heavilly patronized. In rush hour, they are all packed. But I agree, that 
off-peak, running two or in the case of the Red Line Line, singles would 
work. A problem is that the lines are long and where to keep the released 
cars ofr the next rush hour-there is zero storage capacity at either Salt 
Lake Center or University, the inner terminals. On the Green Line and the 
Red Line, there are yards right past the junctions from the Blue Line, so 
they could be dumped there. Only one operator per train, and fare is roving 
police doing proof of payment.
The sunny shots were days when the semi-annual Mormon Conference was 
happening and a big University of Utah football game, so they clearly 
swelled the ridership.
