You cannot line it up because the East Street Expresway has changed the entire area. You need to go back to old maps to find out where the end of the four lanes on McKnight Road were and that is exactly where it is. A good Gulf map from the 1950s would work.
But we can also do it with Google Maps.
You are looking south off the Ivory Avenue Bridge onto McKnight Road. Today I-279 swoops in from the right side and heads straight ahead down the valley, almost obliterating everything.
However, those houses on the right are still there.
Go to Google maps and then key in 4145 Evergreen Road, Pittsburgh, PA in the map browser. It will lead you to the WPXI television studio which is just across the street (north of) the white house on the left side of the picture.
Now you can see the houses on the left side (west side) of Evergreen Road on the map which correspond to those on the right side of the picture.
Today Evergreen Road goes under the expressway and curves south. In 1940 it came straight out and made an abrupt 90 degree left turn about 50 feet north of where it intersects with McKnight Road today.
Got it now?
