Hi, Mr.Brannon,
Is any cake left over? It is interesting such an accurate image
can be applied to a cake. It was probably difficult to cut.
A firm date for fan removal is unknown but reports usually
indicate 1960. Some of the 1000-series cars were scrapped
thus the trolley cowl was available. Emails in the archives
say it was overhauled and a very fine operating car. They
also indicate Pat rejected the car because the trolley cowl
was distinctly different. While this seems strange it also
seems plausible--Pat didn't have any interest in the trolleys
did they. Any reason to get rid of them was sufficient.
I see the museum had at least 2-charters with the car. Your
picture can't be the charter in 1957 as it still retained fans.
Four-years and a month later on April-17-1961 was another
charter on lines in the East; this date seems to fit your photo.
Car 1630 was based in South Hills so it would not operate
in the East.
I believe Mr.Volkmer's photos at "Dave's" trolley photo website
has a number of photos of 1630 with fans and with the 1000-
series cowl. I remember Trafford photos looking down on
the car so roof details are in evidence. The typical air-vent
is on the front of the car but not the back as I remember. It
seems the Trafford photos are the same charter for your
cake photo.
That photo was 51-years ago, a half-century. Times does fly.
Are we having fun?
Phil
